Barcelona's Spri SGECR Venture Capital Invests In Spanish/American Music Recommendation Engine

MusicStrands has received $2.3M from a new investor Spri SGECR Venture Capital. The Spanish investment makes more sense as MusicStrands has 30 employees in Corvallis, OR and 20 in Barcelona, Spain.
MusicStrands' management team includes chief strategist Andreas Weigand, former chief scientist at Amazon, and MarketWatch founder Derek Reisfield, who was also president of CBS New Media.
MusicStrands offers a recommendation engine that gauges a user's musical tastes in real time by recommending music the user does not already own, but may want to rock to. It runs in conjunction with iTunes,

MusicStrands makes money when a user buys music from an affiliate company such as Amazon. Investors, however, are interested in the company's plans to license its technology to mobile phone companies and hardware manufacturers. In collaboration with UK-based Vodafone Group, MusicStrands has created Music Guru, a new service that mixes music downloads and music streaming.
