Neteco is reporting that video on demand platforms in France generated 2 million units of sales in the first six months of this year, based on stats from Nouveaux Paysages Audiovisuels (NPA) and GfK.

Only one of the platforms tracked in the market research report is a startup, vodeo.tv. And sure enough, it’s early success, mainly as a vendor of French documentaries, has already attracted an investor in the form of Arts Alliance Media (via Rodrigo).

The UK firm announced late last week that it had taken a stake in the company behind vodeo.tv, La Banque Audiovisuelle, with an option to acquire 100 percent of the company within the next 12 months.

Arts Alliance, whose core business is digital film distribution, does direct investments, such as Lovefilm, which it recently merged with venture backed Video Island, and it has a venture arm.

The others platforms generating VOD traffic are Arte, CanalPlay, Fnac.com, France Télévisions, Free, l'INA, M6, Orange, TPS, Virginmega, and TF1.
