Seed Financing For Heliatek's Organic Solar Cells

portfolio_heliatek.gif
Heliatek, a Dresden-based startup commercializing organic thin-film technology to make solar cells, has raised €650K from the prolific High Tech Grunderfund. It's a spinoff of the Institut für Angewandte Photophysik at the TU in Dresden. The TU Dresden is the same uni that spun out the well-funded, venture-backed OLED startup, Novaled, with which Heliatek is also collaborating.

Heliatek does not have a website yet, so we could not find out how efficient its solar cells are compared to other photovoltaics made using non-silicon based cells, such as those from the Swiss startup , Flexcell, nor how they compare with traditionally manufactured solar cells. If the tech is any good at all, we will see one of the larger solar cell manufacturers in Germany either do a strategic financing round with this one, or sign up to do R&D.

Dresden in "Silicon Saxxony" is homebase for Heliatek.
