Exclusive: Early Skypers Back Web Tutoring For Chinese Market
As 2006 came to close, Ambient Sound Investment, the Estonian-based investment vehicle of four early Skype engineering employees, gave us the scoop on their final investment of the year. The team invested an undisclosed amount in a Silicon Valley-based startup called Idapted.com, whose business is based on a web-based tutoring platform to enable Chinese customers to improve conversational skils.
We in Ambient are happy to top up our portfolio at the end of the year with our last Y2006 investment - www.idapted.com is a spoken-English-language tutoring site which provides platform for Chinese people to train their English-speaking skills, ie. the site focuses on teaching common conversations and everyday spoken language apsects rather than taking classroom studies and converting them to internet.Idapted has offices both in US and China and they bring together native English speaking tutors from US with Chinese students in mainland China. Idapted builds their own 'EnglishQuad' technology platform to accomplish this. Idapted service will go live on Y2007.
