Germany's Locr Gets Seed Finance For GeoTagging Photo Site
If You Have A Mobilephone With Built-in GPS, Like This HTC P3300...

Or If You Have One Of These...

...or if you've ever looked through photos stored on your hard drive and asked "where in the world was I when I took that photo", you might see the value of using locr.com.
The co-founder and CEO Malte Schloen tells us it works like this: users upload their photos and the locr software assists in adding the location information, either manually prompting the user to locate it using Google Maps, or linking to existing geo-data (from the GPS data devices). It is integrated with Wikipedia and GoogleMaps.
The business model is the freemium one, with subscription fees for heavy users. There are also plans for selling into the professional photography and logistics markets.

The startup behind it, locr gmbh, based in Braunschweig, Germany, near Hannover, is four-months old and just raised seed capital from the High-Tech Gründerfonds.
This is not co-founder Schloen's first venture - his last one Tallyman.de was VC-backed and is still in business. The startup also has one of the co-founders of Miro Computer Products AG, a German graphics cards and displays manufacturer, as a business angel and hands-on coach.
