Top Tech M&A Deals Spell Exits For Some European VCs

We've been looking for mainstream financial media over here to report on the tech M&A and IPOs in Europe in 2006 to be able to provide a link to some overviews of the year's activity, like the ones over at The Deal's VCRatings blog. But Europe's financial journos must be otherwise occupied. So we were happy to see Kennet Ventures' Max Bleyleben on his Technofile blog (the graphic right is his) delve into the topic.

Technofile has a list of M&A exits that valued the targets at over $100M, based on an internal tally for tech deals in 2006. There are 8 such deals. A couple of them were Euro VC-backed, such as Cramer Systems, Mergermarket, Netcentrex, Gate5, and eDreams.

Over at VCRatings, Joshua Jaffe has lists of the top US tech M&A and IPOs and the top VC performance of the year for the US market. One of those big M&A deals he listed, Mobile 365, was an exit of US portfolio company for two European VCs, namely 3i and Nexit Ventures.

Because Jaffe was the European venture reporter for The Deal before going back to Silicon Valley a couple of years ago, he still keeps an informed eye on the market here, evident in a couple of recent posts. The one that caught our eye was an exit for Atlas Venture, whose US portfolio company, Isilon, just floated with a $1.4B valuation.
