Cyan Networks Raising First Round For Linux Web Security
Cyan Networks is looking to raise between €3M and €5M to establish its Linux-based web utility (proxy) software business in the German-speaking and Eastern regions in Europe and to finance some smaller acquisitions, according to Der Standard in Austria.
Its software is targeted at IT managers and supports VMWare environments and Intel platforms. It's already building a direct channel and looking for OEMs too.
Cyan's Austrian founders left SurfControl last year after five years with the Internet and email filtering company post acquisition of their startup CSM Security Management AG. CSM was an Austrian software company acquired acquired by SurfControl in 2000 for $17.3M in 2000. Its claim to fame was CSM Proxy, an application that was sold directly to about 10,000 company and also licensed by Netsape and Sun before being acquired.
