Iminent's Instant Messaging Video Feature Gets €3M In VC

French startup Iminent, which makes a video-add-on application for instant messaging systems, has raised €3M from Italy's 360 Partners. Currently in private beta, so untestable, its angle is to distribute client software that enable users to make short videos. It is hoping the video clips will be used as a replacement to emoticons when chatting online. It is not clear to us if it plugs-in to existing IM services or if it stands alone.
We think there must be more to this investment than meets the eye because we can't imagine that VCs would invest in a startup that provides just video functionality that is lready available in services like MSN Messenger and other instant messaging platforms.
