del.icio.us - Profile
HQ: New York, NY
Founded: 2003
Management: Founder is Joshua Schachter. He also runs memepool.com, "purveyors of fine links and Internet archeology."
Investors: Just announced an undisclosed investment - but it has the feel of a friends and family deal.
Business Model: del.icio.us "allows you to easily add sites you like to your personal collection of links, to categorize those sites with keywords, and to share your collection not only between your own browsers and machines, but also with others." This is a "social bookmarks manager" which provides a real-time sense of what people are reading on the Web. Not a business model in sight.
Competitors: Furl, Technorati, de.lirio.us, StumbleUpon, Spurl
Dirt: Classic guy-in-a-room venture. Schachter has been running this as a side project, with no stated intention of making money. Rather, he reaps the karmic rewards of creating a nice Web tool and clearly draws the adulation of many Web 2.0 geeks. We think he's wise to emerge from his bedroom - a little investment can go a long way in the current market, as can a loyal user base.

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
