Blue Security - Profile

Founded: 2004

Management: Co-founders are Eran Reshef and Amir Hirsh. This is the third venture for Reshef, who was previously the founder of Sanctum (acquired by WatchFire) and the founder of Skybox Security. Amir Hirsh will serve as executive VP of solutions. He was previously VP of R&D for Riptech (acquired by Symantec).

Investors: $3 million seed-round financing from Benchmark Capital.

Business Model: Quite vague at the moment. The company is pre-launch and says it will offer a viable solution for stopping spam and spyware. It claims this will be achieved "using a revolutionary approach" called the Do Not Disturb Registry. Details are otherwise thin.

Competitors: MailWasher, McAfee, Anti Spam Software, Qurb, Webroot, Microsoft, LavaSoft

Dirt: The details of the company's "revolutionary approach" are vague at the moment, and that's fine. As a pre-launch venture, these guys have every right to tantalize us with the promise of a transformational anti-spam product. One thing seems clear: Blue Security will not be launching a souped-up anti-spam/spyware filter. On the company blog, which has all of five entries, Eran Reshef meditates on the fact that filters just don't cut it any more. If you're dying to know what Blue Security's secret sauce is going to be, we suggest keeping an eye on the company's corporate blog. Between the lines you might begin to get a real sense for what these guys are up to.
