Entrisphere - Profile

entprisphere.jpg

HQ: Santa Clara, CA

Founded: 2000

Management: CEO Mark Floyd previously founded Efficient Networks which was acquired by Siemens for a full $1.5B. CTO Phil Winterbottom previously was responsible for Lucent Inferno.

Investors: In May 2005, Entrisphere raised $75M led by VantagePoint Venture Partners, Accel Partners, Benchmark Capital, CDP Capital, Crosspoint Venture Partners, Duff Ackerman & Goodrich, El Dorado Ventures, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, and STAR Ventures. The company has raised more than $171M to date.

Business Model: Entrisphere sells a multiservice broadband access loop carrier platform which delivers voice, video, and data services down last-mile pipes.

Competitors: Alcatel, Nortel, Lucent, Calix Networks.

Dirt: This is very high stakes poker. Entrisphere targets the very largest telecoms and cable companies so if it doesn't succeed with them, there's no plan B. Its newish CEO is a superstar and clearly sees promise. The company's war chest will help it to get meetings for sure. It's been a long time since we've had big telecom equipment plays pay off. Could this be it?

And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
