Five9 - Profile
HQ: Pleasanton, CA
Founded: 2001
Management: President & CEO Brian Silverman previously ran Montreal-based eCommerce software shop Cyber World Group.
Investors: In May 2005, Five9 raised $12M in Series B, for a total to date of $17M, led by Partech International with existing investors HummerWinblad and Mosaic Venture Partners.
Business Model: The company offers an ASP-based call center solution via VoIP for a subscription fee. Target clients tend to be newer ventures that have never run call centers before and want to get up soon at low costs.
Competitors: Contactual
Dirt: Five9 and Contactual are on to something good. The downside is that call centers tend to be low margin businesses, so if and when the rest of the industry catches on to how Five9 is making things more efficient, Five9 will have to collapse its margins as well. In the meantime, we expect they will have a nice go at it.

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
