Founded: 1958. Can that be right?
Management: CEO is David Lord, a jock who was formerly a collegiate offensive lineman and also founded online toy retailer ToySmart.com which was bought by Walt Disney for a $55M - like eToys it went bankrupt in 2000.
Investors: In May 2005, Razorgator raised a $26M round of venture co-led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Oak Ventures. RazorGator had raised $5M in seed capital with Hercules Technology Growth Capital.
Business Model: Razorgator is among a number of companies that have created a secondary market for event ticket sales. The company began offline as a scalping agency. It earns its revenues by taking a 15% bite off the seller, it also takes a flat fee from buyers. The company has not fully disclosed revenues but claims that it had a $1M revenue day when the Boston Redsocks clinched the pennant.
Competitors: eBay, Craigslist, StubHub, TicketsNow, Openseats.com, Nettickets, Tickco.
Dirt: Holy cow - CEO Lord apparently weighs in at 300 lbs. RazorGator, StubHub and company enjoy the luxury of servicing an irrational market. The danger in this market is that teams or music artists or labels will seek to take over - so, for example, the San Francisco Giants website provides a secondary tickets market for tickets, which largely makes RazorGator and StubHub unnecessary.

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
