SugarCRM - Profile
HQ: Cupertino, CA
Founded: 2003
Management: The three co-founders and management team all previously worked at e-piphany and are strong in product development.
Investors: In 2005, SugarCRM raised $5.75M in Series B from Draper Fisher Jurvetson, which led the company's $2M Series A in 2004, and Walden International.
Business Model: SugarCRM is an open-source Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software vendor. The company's professional edition sells for $240 per year including technical support, and $480 per year for the hosted edition. The product line gets great reviews and downloads of its free version have been impressive.
Competitors: Salesforce, Siebel, Microsoft CRM.
Dirt: Salesforce must be more than a little nervous looking at SugarCRM in the rear-view mirror. The company has been adding functionality at a rapid clip, has the support of open-source enthusiasts and is half the cost - for people who care about that. Given what its open-source cousin MySQL has done, we expect big things from SugarCRM.

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
