Anagran - Profile
HQ: Redwood City, CA
Founded: 2004
Management: Founder Larry Roberts was one of the godfathers of the Internet, having worked at ARPANET. He had previously founded Caspian Networks - a real cash pig that ate through more than $300M in a bloodbath washout.
Investors: In July 2005, Anagran closed $12M in funding from Argon Capital, ArrowPath Venture Capital, and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. Apparently an agency of the US government is a major investor in the round. The company had previously raised $8M in 2004.
Business Model: Anagran plans to sell a router to enterprises that tracks flows of data, rather than individual packets in order to boost quality of service. This need could be particularly acute for higher traffic requirements from video data.
Competitors: No significant competitors at this point.
Dirt: Founder Roberts obviously needs a win with Anagran to redeem himself from the stinking pit of Caspian Networks. Certainly he has a lot of learnings that he can apply about flow-based networking. Still it does seem like a long-term research project. Its always troublesome when a innovative company has no competitors and no real sector to spring from.

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
