Slide - Profile

slide_logo_sm.jpg

HQ: San Francisco, CA

Founded: 2004

Management: Founder/CEO Max Levchin was the CTO of PayPal, which he co-founded in 1998. Shortly after a successful IPO in 2002, PayPal was acquired by eBay for $1.5B. Levchin left the company in late 2002 and two years later he founded Slide.

Investors: Bootstrapped by deep-pocketed Levchin.

Business Model: Slide is a downloadable desktop program that indexes photos, automatically groups them into channels, and plays them back via a ticker interface. Invite friends and they can view your Slide via RSS.

Competitors: Google Picassa, Yahoo Flikr, Shutterfly, Webshots, Fotolog.

Dirt: Good photo tools spread like mad on the Net and that's what Slide is seeing. What is surprising about Slide is that they already have a business model. They will sell advertising into Slide shows.
