Actually, There's a Dot.com in Skokie

Per our post today on the dearth of tech ventures in Chicago-land, one has recently launched in suburban Skokie, IL. IfByPhone is in Beta, it lacks a logo, and its site is nasty-looking, but it has funding from an incubator - Cogitations - and the product doesn't sound half-bad.

Sign up for IfByPhone and thanks to a text-to-speech engine, you can play poker or get stock quotes and scores, all read to you over your landline or mobile. The system can understand your verbal commands for 'double-down' or "Cubs game time" and respond accordingly. If only they could get Mike Ditka's voice.
