Knight Rider Functionality Arrives

Say you return from a long business trip and you can't remember where you left your car in the airport parking lot. Or you left your car on a San Francisco street, and returned to find it gone - was it stolen or towed? Take a page from the seminal David Hasselhoff TV vehicle Knight Rider by checking your Blackberry to locate your wheels thanks to a new service from Guidepoint.

Guidepoint is a Pontiac, MI-based startup founded by CEO Rand Mueller, who previously founded automotive security supplier Code-Alarm in 1987 which made Mueller rich through an IPO. Now Guidepoint has created a wireless access protocol (WAP) that allows subscribers to track their vehicle, unlock doors, start the engine and honk the horn with a cell phone. The vehicle tracking service displays a map pinpointing the vehicle location, as well as a text readout of the street address where the vehicle is located.
