The Web T-shirt Contest

We have covered the eCommerce sites that hawk customized t-shirts and let people set-up storefront from custom-printed gear. The sales growth for these companies is impressive. Now we have heard today from another entrant that we were not familiar with - Spreadshirt.com.

Mark E. Seremet has joined Spreadshirt as its North American head. He was the co-founder of Take Two (nasdaq:ttwo) - the publisher of Grand Theft Auto. As he modestly puts it: "We did very well in that endeavor." Seremet had founded a game company in college called Paragon Software that he sold to Microprose back in 1992.

Spreadshirt was founded in 2002 in Leipzig, Germany by Lukasz Gadowski, 27. With no investors or loans, he bootstrapped his way to over 150 employees, sales in excess of $10M, profitability, and no investors or debt.

Seremet says that "My perspective is that our business model and technology is incredibly cool and we can dominate this industry within a matter of a few years." His competitors at Zazzle, backed by John Doerr and Ram Shriram, as well as at Cafe Press might chuckle at this bravado, but we like it that Spreadshirt.com has its origins in Europe, the site is localized in 7 languages and it has traffic momentum.

ThumbTopTenREVIEWS Raises $6M

Utah's TopTenREVIEWS has raised $6M in a venture round from Highway 12 Ventures and Village Ventures. TopTenREVIEWS said the funding will use the funding to expand its online review site, and increase its workforce. TopTenREVIEWS runs an online product and price comparison shopping web site, under the guise of objective reviews of products ranging from video games to anti-virus software. The startup says it plans to boost its headcount by 100 thanks to the investment. TopTenREVIEWS was founded by Jerry Ropelato who was COO of ContentWatch.
