A Monster Year For NanoTech

aspenaergels.gif

Venture investments in US nanotech companies came to $434.3M in 2005, up 121% from 2004, according to Small Times Magazine.

The rise reflected more, later stage deals - the actual number of deals was actually up only slightly, from 45 in 2004 to 51 in 2005.

The mac daddy of nano-tech deals was Aspen Aerogels, which makes a space age insulation. The company raised $50M in Series D led by Reservoir Capital Group with Lehman Brothers, RockPort Capital Partners and Tae Kwang. Aspen Aerogels makes insulation for outdoor sports, as well as for aerospace, automotives, and oil and gas.
