News slipped out today perhaps prematurely that Microsoft has bought Seattle-based Seadragon, formerly SandCodex. The company's technology allows individuals to view and interact with high resolution images which can be used in telemedicine, blogging, mapping, virtual books and other areas.

The company's front-man is Blaise Aguera y Arcas is a physicist/polymath who's worked in various fields: engineering, cryptography, neuroscience, computer technology, and extra-terrestrial research. In his free time he plays renaissance and baroque instruments.

The 30 year old Princeton grad is currently working on a PhD from Princeton in Computational and Applied Math. Previously he was a software engineer at Real-Time Geometry which was bought by MetaCreatons (now Viewpoint).
