Ol' Man Duffield Returns With a Startup

top_banner.gif

When Larry Ellison bought out PeopleSoft, he might have expected his nemesis at PeopleSoft - Dave Duffield - to fade away into the golf course horizons. Duffield is a billionaire who founded Integral Systems and Information Associates, as well as Peoplesoft so retirement would be a fair assumption

But now Duffield is back with a startup called Workday that has enterprise geeks worked up into a lather although the company is still in stealth mode.

VC bloggers Jeff Nolan and Jason Wood are tracking Workday:
- "Today's ERP systems are outdated and they can't be re-architected."
- "ERP should be used by everyone with Internet style UI"
- Open-source architecture. Not SQL or relational - organized around XML documents.
- It will likely launch with human resource and payroll functionality.
- Marc Andreeson is involved as are two of Duffield's children who run sales and marketing.
- Greylock is an investor
- Launch will be in April time frame.
