Amazon Buys ShopBop

shopbop logo.gif

We don't know how much Amazon paid for ShopBop but we believe they got a good deal. ShopBop has built a nice site and gets great press coverage from Women's magazines, so we suspect that it is building momentum, but does not have significant sales.

Founded in 1999 as a single brick-and-mortar store, Shopbop.com sells a wide array of apparel, accessories and shoes.

The deal is interesting as its a break with Amazon's strategy of late to partner with retailers, rather than buy them.
