2 New Ventures Target Old Media
Some RSS aggregators like Rojo and Pluck saw the writing on the wall that Microsoft and the other big-fellas were coming down on their business hard. Pluck has revealed its new strategy - an effort called Blogburst which is syndicating blog content primarily to newspapers.
The a:c thinks that there should be interest both for bloggers to get greater distribution and for newspapers to get new content that is typically more Web-friendly than newspaper articles - and probably a lot cheaper too. There isn't much of a technology angle here, but that's OK if the service works well. The a:c will try it out and report back.
Mochila is a bit different. It wants to be an eBay between media buyers and sellers. The concept might not seem intuitive - why would a newspaper sell its content to another newspaper? But we have spent a lot of time with media licensing people who tell us that such a platform would be very helpful. US companies license stories and pictures overseas but are still doing these deals by phone.
It does make us laugh to see this quote from Mochila's CEO: "Mochila will take a cut 'radically better than 50 percent' from each transaction." So that number could be 1% or it could be 40% right?
