Blue Security Enters Spammers Protection Program

We really liked the concept of Blue Security when we profiled the company more than a year ago. Seed funded with $3M then by Benchmark, the company was going to go mano a mano with spammers. Rather than simply trying to filter spam, it would subject spammers to a taste of their own medicine.

Blue Security debuted its spam-fighting service last summer and built up a user base of more than 500K, however, it appears to have called it quits after its servers were knocked offline by a daisy-cutter, denial-of-service (DoS) attack it claimed was launched by a powerful Russian spammer called "PharmaMaster."

Prime suspects for the Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack on Blue Security's servers have been identified as Christopher Brown AKA Swank AKA "Dollar", his partner Joshua Burch AKA "zMACk" and "some Russians" notably "killthem."

Blue Security gamely played a cat and mouse game with PharmaMaster that resulted in severe collateral damage, bringing down both Typepad and Tucows hosting services.
