How Bloglines Got Funded

markfletcher.jpg

Bloglines and OneList founder Mark Fletcher is a tremendous entrepreneur. Nial Kennedy has the full transcript of a talk that Fletcher gave.

To get seed funding for ONEList, the at-the-time un-known Fletcher emailed Steve Jurvetson every day for a week until Jurvetson relented, but admonished Fletcher not to tell other partners how Fletcher got in the door.

Fletcher also details how cheap he is. For example, to localize Bloglines into 6 languages, he asked for bids on eLance and got it done for just $4K. One reason he is so frugal is that when he launched ONEList he got seed funding from his parents who put a second mortgage on their home - they got their money back in spades.
