Startup That Manages Home-Workers Launches

The problem with home-workers is that it can be difficult to track them and make sure they are doing their work. A startup called oDesk, which has been in beta for 2 years, has just launched today. oDesk has raised $6M from Sigma Partners and Globespan. It provides a match-making service for home jobs and then uses screen grabs and web cams to prove to employers that work is being done. Most of the work at this point is technology-focused.

oDesk also handles billing and payment, and does so for overseas employees who comprise 89% of its work-force. For its part, oDesk takes a 30% cut.
