eBay GM Leaves for Start-up Wikia


Gil Penchina, who was VP and GM at eBay has joined Wikia as CEO. This may be another sign of weakness at eBay or that VCs are able to convince big co execs that start-up valuations are on the up-swing.
Wikia was founded by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales. It is intended to allow for subscription and advertising supported wikis. Wikia has about 8employees and raised $4M from Bessemer Venture Partners in March.

From what I understand, Gil runs south of France for eBay. . . a really really small market. . . he has mentally checked out of ebay for the last 2 years, focusing more on his angel activities.
