HomeAway Launches On Backs of A $47M Roll-Up

homeaway logo.gif An Austin start-up eCommerce site for renting vacation homes launched its service and topped off its funding with $7M for a total of $47M.

HomeAway, formerly WVR Group, offers listings for more than 60K vacation homes in 90 countries on its Web site. The two-year-old company has raised a total of $47M from Austin Ventures, Redpoint Ventures and HomeAway executives. HomeAway built the foundation for its site by purchasing five companies — 3 in the United States, 1 in the UK and 1 in Germany.

HomeAway charges owners and managers of properties $299 a year to list rental information. The start-up has 140 employees. It doesn't release revenue, but HomeAway says it is profitable.

The a:c recently reviewed the very popular vacation home rental site VRBO.com. But we have to say that the functionality and appearance of HomeAway easily trumps VRBO.
