Nelnet Buys CUNet For $40M To Get Online U. Lead Exchange Biz

cunetlogo.gif You probably have seen ads for the likes of for-profit online universities like Capella and University of Phoenix. These e-schools have become big businesses and rely on marketing companies like CUnet to keep their e-school desk seats warm with new students.

Today, student loan company Nelnet paid $40M for CUnet. The New Jersey-based CUnet offers cost-per-lead program that it drives through its flag-ship Web site Collegeanduniversity.net/ -- it maintains about 1,000 other sites. The company also offers a Web-based leads management system.
