With DVDPlay + Netflix, Los Gatos Takes on Hollywood

DVDPlay has raised more than $20M from El Dorado Ventures, Emergence Capital Partners, Palo Alto Venture Partners and Vanguard Ventures. The new financing brings the company’s total VC raised to $40M.

DVDPlay has trials with the likes of McDonalds, Albertsons and Safeway to install self-service DVD kiosks. The kiosks take up 5 square feet and are activated by credit card enabled. They hold 100-350 DVD units and are Internet connected for remote management.

The company was founded by Chairman Charles Berger, who was CEO of Nuance Communications, Vicinity, AdForce, and Radius.
