HotGigs Takes a Page out of eLance and Guru.com To Raise $5.3M

Minneapolis-based HotGigs has raised $5.3M in a of Series A round from Updata Partners. The start-up competes in the increasingly competitive online market for freelance professional services.

HotGigs adds a layer of social networking for the job seekers involved, allowing contractors to build out profiles and connections.

HotGigs was founded and is run by CEO Doug Berg who to this day boasts that he founded dot.com flame-out Techies.com which burned through over $100M venture capital.

HotGigs has plenty of competition in the online freelance arena. It claims to be unique by offering SaaS (Software as a Service) so that companies can hire independent contractors without working through staffing agencies.
