What Is the Most Likely Open Source Project to Succeed? - Consult Ohloh

ohloh_beta_med.gif

A Bellevue WA, startup founded and funded by former Microsoft execs has released a beta version of a service that provides analysis about open-source projects, including license information and estimates of how much an open-source project could cost. It also tells you how popular an open source project is.

The information in the Ohloh service enables technical people to assess how the software was made by comparing data from one open-source project with hundreds of similar open-source projects.

Ohloh has not taken any money. As for a business model, it is Google Adsense supported at this point. We would like to see the start-up develop a premium content or services model to show that it can make some real money.
