Epinions Founder Raises $6.78M For Online Contest Platform

bixlogo.jpg
Bix.com, a Palo Alto-based user-generated online contest start-up, has raised $6.78M in VC funding from firms like Sutter Hill Ventures, Trinity Ventures and Stanford University. Bix founder and CEO Mike Speiser had launced Epinions.

The site has been getting spikes of traffic, but we would attribute that to posts from TechCrunch and the Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg who have covered the start-up favorably.

The a:c's take is that we think the contest concept has legs, however, it is so obvious that we would expect this functionality to be a requirement for MySpace, Bebo and other social networks. Bix is offering a $50,000 prize to get the ball rolling fast.
