Viacom's MTV Buys Atom Entertainment For $200M

atom films logo.png Not that long ago, what was then known as Atom Shockwave was a big disappointment, but management stuck to it. Today the company was bought by Viacom's MTV for $200M. Nice number. Some might think that Viacom has fallen behing Fox which bought MySpace, but we like the hodge-podge of games and video sites that MTV is picking up.

In May, the company paid $102M to buy Xfire, a company that builds online game forums. Earlier this week, MTV Networks announced a deal with Google through which the search firm would distribute MTV's video content to a network of third party sites, and marry those clips with in-stream ads.
