Edgeio Gets Its Head In The Game

Transparency is definitely on the rise amongst private companies. Over at Odeo, Ev Williams admitted that he made some big mistakes. Edgeio likewise came to grips with a torrent of criticism. Due to its tied at the hip relationship with TechCrunch, the start-up may have suffered from over-heightened expectations. Its launch suffered from criticism that the site was creaking slow. Edgeio admitted: "One thing we heard a lot of after launching was that publishing on Edgeio is just too hard. You told us that requirements around tagging, ping servers, and claiming websites made it difficult for all but the savviest publishers to get their data into edgeio."

This week, Edgeio announced a $5M Series A round of financing led by Intel Capital. Our guess is that Intel and other investors believe that Edgeio has a nice market in its sites and it can fix its mistakes. Moreover, given the TechCrunch connection, Edgeio has a free marketing budget.
