Broadband Wireless Roll-up Sparkplug Funded For More Territory

Chicago's Sparkplug has raised $22.5M in second-round funding led by Ignition Partners led the deal, with The Greenspun Corp., Trilogy Equity Partners, Allen & Co. and Square 1 Bank.

Sparkplug sells wirelss broadband to businesses in the midwest. It's pitch is T1 speeds at a fraction of the cost. A 2mbps package costs $295 per month or a 4mbps one - up and down - costs $495.

Sparkplug was formed last year as the result of the merger of three established companies: Sparkplug in Chicago, Prairie iNet in Des Moines, Iowa; and Telespectra in Phoenix. Sparkplug has operations and networks across eight states, making it one of the largest service providers in the emerging wireless business broadband market.
