Europe's Wikio Raises $5.3M For Blog/news Search

More analysis to come from our sister site the a:c euro, but here is the straight news: Luxembourg's Wikio has closed a Series A round of funding totaling $5.3M led by Lightspeed Venture Partners along with Gemini Israel Funds. Wikio is a personalized blog and news search tool that is already a multilingual site - French, Spanish, German and Italian and recently launched an English version.

Wikio was founded by CEO Laurent Binard, also founder of Mediapps (European Software Publisher) and chairman Pierre Chappaz who was Yahoo! Europe President, founder of shopping search engine Kelkoo and co-CEO of Netvibes.

Wikio's seed investors were: Loic Le Meur (VP Sixapart Europe), Martin Varsavsky (CEO FON), Freddy Mini (COO Netvibes), Ouriel Ohayon (Editor Techcrunch France), and VC Jeff Clavier. Its business model is based on sponsored links and search monetization.
