SF's Virtual World Roblox Angel Funded

roboblox logo.png
Virtual world maker Roblox has raised angel funding from "a group of successful CEO's and professional angel investors."

Roblox is creating an online virtual world that combines elements of building, inventing, combat and community. Like SecondLife, the Roblox world is built from thousands of physically simulated components that are assembled to form buildings, vehicles, scenery, characters and traps. "Users battle, trade creations, out-invent one another." The company claims it has 15k users.

The company's founder and CEO is David Baszucki, an angel investor who provided some seed funding to Friendster among other investments. For more than a decade, he was founder and CEO of Knowledge Revolution, which sold software for educational physics and mechanical design simulation. So he does have experience in this area.

The world is rough around the edges, but to the company's credit they acknowledge that. It took many years for SecondLife to look decent so we know this business requires patience.
