The Long Ugly Tail of Digg Knock-offs

adreview.png
Apparently it doesn't pay to, well, to set-up a knock of Digg. Sure Jason Calacanis was able to have some measure of success with his Digg knock-off on Netscape.com. This site lists over 400 Digg knock-offs. To be fair, most are not Digg copies, they they focus on a niche, like Blodee (horror-related), idiggporn, and lawfavorites. While some of these vertical Diggs get traction, like Autospies, most are vast, empty wastelands. The two ad focussed Diggs -- The Ad Review and Adveracio.us look professional and cover a topic of broad interest, but nobody goes there.

The boom in Digg knock-offs has been helpt along by open source content management systems like Pligg as well as Wordpress plug-ins, etc. that make it almost too easy to go Digg.
