3D's RealD Raises $50M In Advance of 3D Film Onslaught

Coming to theaters in 2009 from Dreamworks will be the 3D extravaganza Monsters vs. Aliens. Before that, Disney plans a March 30th release of Meet the Robinsons which will use 3D technology. 3D is a hot new trend in Hollywood and a primary beneficiary is LA-based RealD, which has inked a deal to expand it’s digital 3-D experience to an additional 200 screens (AMC, Regal, Cinemark, and more

To meet growth demands, Real D has raised $50M in private equity funding from the Shamrock Capital Growth Fund. Earlier this month, REAL D announced its acquisition of Boulder, CO-based ColorLink, which creates photonics-based tech for entertainment.
