DefyWire Raises $2.8M For School Safety Products

Amplifier has led a $2.8M investment round in Herndon, VA-based Defywire. Defywire had raised $3.6M in April 2005 in Series B. The company was launched in 2003 to prevent Columbine type of violence where children ratchet up misbehavior until it gets way out of hand.

Defywire's Mobile Guardian can send school officials a message when a specific child has reached a certain threshold of bad behavior incident reports. The company touts statistics which show that children who begin a pattern of truancies, lateness and class fights are at higher risk for taking misbehavior to the next level.

Mobile Guardian provides handheld wireless software is used by teachers, administrators, and school bus drivers to get information about children's whereabouts from the start to end of the school day. It also has the capability of monitoring which children are generating incident reports at various locations.
