HP Buys Logoworks

HP has acquired Lidon, UT-based Arteis which runs Logoworks and LogoMaker. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. However, Arteis told the WSJ that it has been profitable since July 2002, it took in revenue of $3.5M imn2004, and expected revenues to climb to between $10M - $20M in 2005. It says it has serviced 45,000 clients to date. In June 2005, LogoWorks raised $9.3M led by Benchmark Capital and Shasta Ventures.

The company sells logo design, business card and other creative services packages for very low prices to small businesses. It sells logos for $265 with a 3 day turnaround. It charges from $300 to $1500 (the high end gets you stationary and other collateral. LogoWorks' designers are freelancers who accept design jobs, them compete against another LogoWorks' designer. The more wins that a designer accumulates the more he or she is paid. Competitors include: OnlineLogo.com, ViewLogo.com, LogoDesignPros.com, GotLogos.
