Waterproof iPod Firm H2O Audio Raises $5M

h2o logo.png

Life would be sweet if we were on the water so much that we required required a waterproof iPod. Apparently there are enough surfers who want to hear g unit while out on the break to justify the continuing expansion of H20 Audio, which makes audio waterproofing products.

San Diego-based H2O Audio has now raised $5M in Series C funding led by Steelpoint Capital Partners. The company sells waterproof and protective sport accessories for iPods, iRivers, etc. Products include ear phones and casings for the full line of iPods. The products are not cheap. An iPod nano casing might set you back $80 while headphones might cost an additional $40, plus another $30 for the armband. So the nano itself doesn't cost much more than the waterproofing peripherals.

The startup's CEO hails from Finland. Kristian Rauhala had worked for Nokia before founding the company in October 2002.
