Online Backup's Carbonite Gets $15M In Funding

Boston-based online backup service Carbonite has raised $15M in Series B funding led by Menlo Ventures with return backers 3i Group and Common Angels. The company sells a 1 year service plan for $50 to both small businesses and consumers.

Last December, Seagate Technology acquire Carbonite competitor EVault for $185M in cash. EVault has raised over $15M. Mark Cuban made a majority investment in competitor FilesAnywhere.com. Mozy is another popular competitor and will sell you 2 gigs for $60 per year. Amazon’s S3 (Simple Storage Service) is another backup solution and there are a variety of tools built on top of it to help. Other options are DivShare, Box.net, Xdrive, Localhostr, MediaFire, and Dropboks.
