Redmond Tooth Brush Gadget Maker Ultreo Cleans Up Funding

ultreo.png
A new toothbrush from Ultreo, a University of Washington spin-off, features technology that was first stumbled upon at the university's Applied Physics Lab. The startup uses ultrasound, already used in high-pressure professional dental cleanings. Ultrasound is the right frequency to vibrate bubbles. As the bubbles vibrate more than 20K times per second, they move the surrounding fluid, creating layers of water that sweep off plaque. However, previous attempts to create a consumer-grade ultrasonic toothbrush had failed.

Ultreo has secured $5.5M of an $11.3M Series C round led by Polaris Venture Partners, according to a regulatory filing pulled by PeWire. The company is led by Jack Gallagher, who helped launch the Sonicare toothbrush.
