DigitalSmiths Coins Videosense Brand For Its Ad Platform

digitalsmiths.png
We have to imagine that Google attorneys are non too happy with DigitalSmiths' appropriation of the brand VideoSense, especially as the startup wants to compete with Google for insertion of contextual ads into videos.

The Durham, NC-based Digitalsmiths has just raised $6M in Series A funding from The Aurora Funds and Chrysalis Ventures. It raised $200K in seed funding. The startups transitioned into video advertising. Founded in 1998, Digitalsmiths’ first launched video indexing processes and technologies used by film and TV companies to maximize the value of their library material by digitizing video and making it easily searchable. They say that what sets Videosense apart is that it is platform agnostic. But to be fair, we understand that DigitalSmith's competitors also are agnostic here.

Other startups competing in video ad insertion include: Adaptv,
Yume, Brightroll, and Scanscout.
