Skype Foursome Invest In Blip.tv

bliptv.png
YouTube competitor Blip.tv raised an undisclosed amount of Series B funding led by Ambient Sound Investments (fund set-up by four founding engineers of Skype). Other angels included Lauder Partners, Jeffrey Sechrest (co-head of media/entertainment at Lazard), and Ken Sawyer (founder of Saints Capital).

NYC-based Blip.tv is known for its 50-50 rev share with Net video producers. It says it wants to also become known for episodic content and will use part of the funding to groom talent. We tend to think of them as some nasty cross-checkers who use to work for the NHL.

We agree with Ambient Sound's comments on the investment, that Blip.tv is not a YouTube clone and that by standing for something - indie content - it can win a loyal following.
