Subscription Database Trackvia Vs. Freebase

Denver, CO-based online database developer Trackvia reported that it has won an undisclosed amount of funding from Flywheel Ventures. Trackvia is priced on a monthly subscription basis at $29 per month for one user, plus $5 per month for each additional user. The idea here is that many people use Excel as a database to track lists, but it is a pain to share those lists or collaborate with others. Trackvia dumbs down to provide only the features most people use while removing the complexity of database design and admin.

Several years ago Trackvia's subscription pricing would seem like a terrific deal. However, there are a growing number of free options, including the recently launched Freebase. Also, there is some functionality in Google's free spreadsheets application and Google's public database Googlebase that people can use rather than Trackvia. Yet more competitors include DabbleDB, Intuit’s QuickBase, and Zoho.
