ThemBid Angel Funded For Reverse eBay

A friend of a friend started a well funded company back in 2000 called Respond.com. It had a rough go at it but survived the dotcom shakeout. You need something so you post your need on the Net and have people bid on it. Respond.com has a new competitor called Thembid. The site is not an auction in that the lowest bidder is not necessarily the winner. The ideal is to provide a method where the buyer is able to make an informed choice (using the rating system) rather than with the traditional yellow pages option of selecting the businesses with the largest ad or bolded listing.
Elmer Thomas, CEO of ThemBid, gets in touch to let us know that he has raised an undisclosed amount of angel funding for his startup. In the past couple of days he did a relaunch and the site is shaping up.
Because most of the items listed on ThemBid seem to be services, there is a regional value so Thembid is currently open to business only in California. While it has nothing like Craigslist volume, Thembid shows that it s starting to gain enough of a userbase to make it worthwhile for users. However, Respond.com has been around long enough that it is in every state and has millions of members.
